Catastrophic Injury/Wrongful Death

Representing Victims of Catastrophic Accidents

How can you define the loss of a child who has suffered a brain injury? What is the value of a life? These are questions juries are asked to answer in personal injury and wrongful death trials, questions insurance companies hope to resolve with simple formulas.

As your counsel, attorneys at our Pittsburgh firm, Woomer & Hall, will have the support of top scientific, medical, and accounting experts in making a compelling presentation to an insurance adjustor, and, if your case goes to trial, a judge or jury. We recognize how difficult it is for our clients to deal with the emotional stress, grief, medical bills, and loss of employment that stem from serious injuries or fatalities. Our lawyers focus on obtaining a result, whether verdict or settlement, that will provide the resources you need to rebuild your life.

The Result Matters: As personal injury lawyers, our representation is focused on results, verdicts and settlements. We have successfully recovered millions for our clients, compensation they have used to rebuild their lives.

Our attorneys are prepared to handle, on behalf of accident victims, claims involving a wide range of serious conditions, including the following:

Reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD): Also known as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), reflex sympathetic dystrophy is a chronic condition that affects skin, muscles, joints, and bones. RSD typically develops in a broken leg or arm, but can develop as a result of a sprain or other apparently minor injury. Symptoms of RSD/CRPS include chronic pain, burning sensations, sweating, swelling, and sensitivity to touch. A few of the many causes of RSD include fractures, brain injuries, infections, repetitive stress disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome, and surgery.

Permanent brain damage: A severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) may leave a person disabled and in need of a lifetime of nursing care. More difficult to define, yet devastating, are the effects of a brain injury that results in personality change, depression, loss of cognitive function, memory loss, or chronic pain.

Back, neck, and spinal cord injuries: A spinal cord injury may result in various degrees of paralysis, including paraplegia and quadriplegia, in weakness, and in chronic pain.

Repetitive stress, including that resulting in lower back injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, and shoulder injuries can cause permanent nerve damage, paralysis, chronic pain, and weakness.

Extensive burns: Third degree burn injuries are among the most painful medical conditions. Burn injuries that cause disfiguring scarring may result in psychological distress as well as loss of movement.

Wrongful death: In Pennsylvania, the spouse, children, grandchildren, and heirs named in the will of the victim of negligence are entitled to bring wrongful death claims. Our attorneys help them establish standing and see that they recover the full compensation they deserve.

Consult with a lawyer before making any decisions about your claim: It is extremely important that you seek advice from an attorney with experience in your type of case before making a statement to an insurance company representative or signing a settlement form. You deserve to receive full compensation for your loss.
